Your guide to navigating career fairs with confidence

Each fall, our campus recruiting team looks forward to a new season of connecting with students across the country and building the next class of early career consultants.

We work with more than 500 schools nationwide and last year joined over 40 events including classroom visits, student organization sessions, career fairs, and our own hosted experiences.

This fall, our team will once again be on the road for career fairs across the country. To help students make the most of these events, I pulled together some tips from my three years of recruiting experience.

Tips for career fair success:

  • Dress professionally. Business attire is always a safe choice, but make sure your shoes are comfortable enough for a full day of walking and conversations.
  • Do your homework. Review the list of attending companies, learn about the ones you are most interested in, and come prepared with a few thoughtful questions.
  • Practice your introduction. A short, confident introduction goes a long way. Think about what you want employers to remember about you and practice saying it out loud until it feels natural.
  • Refresh your resume. Keep it simple and clear, highlight recent and relevant experiences, and be sure to bring printed copies. Leadership roles, class projects, and involvement on campus all matter. Tools can help with formatting, but always personalize your resume so it reflects your voice and experiences.

Most importantly, be yourself! Career fairs and networking can feel intimidating, but every employer is there because they want to meet students like you.
